Why Does My Dog Lick Me?

Some doggos love to give kisses! But what does this mean? Do they love us? Are they happy? Below are some common reasons why our cute friends want to share their slobber with us.

#1 Sign of Affection

Dogs often lick you as a sign of affection. Licking is a natural action for dogs. Most dogs have learned from when they were puppies and their mother groomed and gave them affection by licking. If your pup doesn’t lick you a lot it doesn’t mean they are less affectionate. This just means that they may have learned differently as a puppy or it just simply doesn’t like to lick.

#2 Relieves Anxiety or Calms Them

Licking you or themselves can be calming for your pup. Licking releases pleasurable endorphins which gives dogs a feeling of comfort and pleasure. This helps calm their anxiety if they have any.

#3 Looking for Attention

Dogs love attention so this is another way to get it. If you want to stop your dog from this behavior you can start a routine of walking away. If you’re petting them and they start to lick you or if you’re just sitting there and they start, you can ignore them get up and walk into the other room. This way they associate the licking with you leaving, and will eventually stop. But if you don’t mind then let them lick away!

#4 You Taste Good

Your pup likes what your skin tastes like. A human’s skin is often very salty especially if you’ve been sweaty recently. If you have just showered it could also be the taste of body wash you use that attracts your dog.

#5 Just Because

Sometimes doggos like to lick out of boredom or no reason at all. We all have something we do just because.

We hope you have a fantastic week. Stay Safe, Live, Love, and Pet all the animals!

Love,

Jess & Lily
